San Diego-based Express Logic, a developer of real-time operating systems (RTOS) used heavily in industrial settings, has been acquired by Microsoft, in a bid to extend Microsoft's footprint into the real time OS arena. Soylent Launches Snack Bar Line, Soylent Squared
Los Angeles-based alternative nutrition maker Soylent is re-entering the energy bar market, saying on Thursday that it has launched a new product called Soylent Squared, new 100-calorie solid bars in three different flavors. Soylent Squared said that the new bars are designed to provide a "mini meal" for people who are "sick of the typical sugar-loaded, chocolate covered protein bar." Gen.G Finds $46M For E-Sports Effort, Plans New LA Headquarters
Gen.G, a South Korean e-sports organization which runs such a network of e-sports teams, has raised $46M in a celebrity-packed funding round, and plans to set up a new headquarters in Los Angeles. Red 6 Aerospace Lands $2.5M For AR Technology
Los Angeles-based Red 6 Aerospace, a startup developing Augmented Reality software aimed at used in what it says are "high-speed, dynamic environments", has raised $2.35M in a seed funding round. The funding was led by Moonshots Capital, and also included Irongate Capital Advisors, as well as angel investors. Quest Buys ApexSQL
Aliso Viejo-based software developer Quest Software announced on Thursday morning that it has acquired ApexSQL, a developer of SQL Server development and database tools. Semtech Chalks Up LoRa Win For Construction, Mining Equipment
Camarillo-based wireless semiconductor developer Semtech has chalked up another design win for its low power, wireless LoRa technology, saying that a developer of fleet management products for the construction and mining industry has adopted its technology. Climate Change Skeptics In Los Angeles Face Heat Wave, Smog, Wind In Ecobee Gag
If you can't convince them, at least you can bake them, subject them to smog, and hurricane force winds--at least, that apparently was the theory of a marketing push by "smart" thermometer maker Ecobee, which just launched a video marketing push ahead of Earth Day featuring a number of Los Angeles area climate change skeptics. Western Digital Names New CFO
Western Digital Corp., which has major operations in Irvine, announced this morning that it has named Robert Eulau as its new Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer (CFO). Eulau takes over the CFO post from Mark Long, who is leaving the company in June.
