The Trade Desk Adds Board Member
Ventura-based The Trade Desk, which develops advertising technology, said Monday afternoon that it has added Lise Buyer to its Board of Directors. Buyer is Managing Partner of the Class V Group, a consulting firm that advises companies on initial public offerings. According to The Trade Desk, Buyer had advised the company prior to its IPO in September 2016. Dentulu Looks To Bring On-Demand Dentistry To LA
Too busy to bother with a visit to the dentist? A new, Los Angeles startup, Dentulu, is hoping to make it easier for you to handle dental care--saying it wants to allow patients to book a dental appointment much like they might book a ride on Uber. According to Dentulu, it has developed a mobile app, which it plans to launch in April, which where it says it will offer up preventative and restorative dental care to patients ages 18 years and older. Fisker Announces New Sub-$40,000 SUV
Los Angeles-based electric car startup Fisker announced a brand new vehicle today, a sub-$40,000 SUV, promising that it will start shipping to customers in the second half of 2021. Fisker, run by auto designer Henrik Fisker, said the new vehicle will have close to 300 miles of range and start below $40,000, but is not expected to have a driveable prototype of the vehicle until the end of this year. Qualcomm Backs OneWeb In $1.25 Billion Funding For Satellite Communications
San Diego-based Qualcomm is one of the lead investors in a big, $1.25 billion funding round for satellite communications startup OneWeb, which was announced this morning. According to Silicon Valley-based OneWeb, the $1.25 billion funding brings its total raised to $3.4 billion. The funding round was led by SoftBank Group Corp., Grupo Salinas, Qualcomm Technologies Inc., and the Government of Rwanda. Viasat Selected By Canadian Army Project
Carlsbad-based satellite communications equipment and services provider Viasat is being used in a satellite communications effort by the Canadian Army, the company announced this morning. According to Viasat, its KOR-24A Small Tactical Terminal (STT) was selected by the Canadian Department of National Defence in September 2018 to support a project being implemented in partnership with MDA, a Maxar Technologies company. Myspace Accidentally Loses 12 Years Of Music
Remember Myspace? The onetime social networking site, founded in Los Angeles, is now owned by Meredith Corporation and is still active as an online music discovery site. However, the site has quite a bit less music now, after the site accidentally lost all of the music uploaded to the site uploaded between 2003 and 2015.
